Dear FUSD Community,
I hope you and your family are well during this first full week of Summer Break and finding ways to enjoy yourselves during these unique circumstances.
Upcoming Board Meeting
I invite you to tune in to next Wednesday’s Board Meeting to hear discussion of the District’s 2020-21 Budget, as well as potential budget balancing solutions. COVID-19 has brought new challenges to our public education system and we want you to be aware of adjustments and have the opportunity to provide your feedback. The Board will also hear an update of the District’s Task Force working toward the start of the new school year in August. The agenda and guidelines for submitting public comments will be posted by Friday evening on the District website.
Distance Learning/School Reopening Survey
Thank you to everyone who answered the District’s student and parent/guardian surveys regarding distance learning and schools reopening in August. Your opinions and comments will be used by the FUSD Task Force to shape policies and strategies going into the new school year - in whatever form it may take. Sub task forces are meeting regularly to work toward determining what classrooms/learning will look like in the fall, how facilities will be kept clean and as safe as possible, and how do we best support the needs of our students and staff? I hope to present the framework of our plan to the community soon. This remains a team effort and I look forward to hearing your thoughts as we move through the process.
Youth Leadership Academy
Alameda County is now accepting applications for its annual Youth Leadership Academy. The Academy is a free, educational program that enables high school youth to learn about local government while completing a career development and job readiness program alongside their peers. Incoming high school juniors and seniors are encouraged to apply.
Enjoy your weekend!
Raúl M. Zamora, Ed.D.
Acting Superintendent
