Dear FUSD Community,
School Reopening
I know you are all anxious to hear details regarding the reopening of schools in August. Our FUSD Task Force has been meeting regularly to discuss and plan for all aspects of operations for the 2020-21 school year. An update of the District’s progress is available (pdf). I am also aware there is still great uncertainty about what conditions will be in August and what new challenges may develop along the way. We continue to monitor, consult with, and follow guidance from the State of California, Alameda County Public Health, Alameda County Office of Education, and the City of Fremont. While some restrictions are being scaled back, the possibility remains for a surge in COVID-19 cases and we will plan accordingly. A review of the Task Force’s work will be presented to the FUSD Board of Education at its July 8th meeting. I encourage you to tune in and learn more about the District’s efforts.
Budget Balancing Solutions
The district is once again facing difficult budget choices that have been exacerbated by the impact of COVID-19. There was good news to report this week as the State of California reached a budget deal that will preserve public school funding at its pre-COVID-19 levels. While we are certainly not out of the woods yet, this development could be very helpful to FUSD in meeting its budget requirements for 2020-21. The FUSD Board of Education approved the District’s proposed 2020-21 budget at last night’s meeting. More discussion and opportunities for feedback from the community regarding the budget will take place over the coming weeks.
Summer Meals/Volunteers
We are happy to announce FUSD's Grab & Go Meal Service will continue throughout the Summer! Pickup locations and schedule will remain the same. Volunteers are needed to assist at all locations. Our thanks to the City of Fremont and other community partners for making this program possible!
