Dear FUSD Community,
As my role as Acting Superintendent comes to a close, I want to thank all of you for your support over the past four months. It was an interesting and exciting time to serve as your Superintendent. While hectic at times, I believe we have all learned from our experiences and have come to appreciate the new relationships that were formed, and further strengthened our existing relationships.

As we approach the start of the 2020-21 school year, we continue to work through several areas regarding Distance Learning. One area that I am particularly proud of, was the work of the FUSD Task Force. The work accomplished by the Task Force demonstrated that all stakeholders can come together collaboratively to focus on student instruction and safety. We must continue to work as a community while facing the challenges ahead. Our staff continues to gather feedback from families, students, and staff in order to create a Learning Continuity and Attendance Plan which is a state requirement for all districts in a Distance Learning Model. This plan will be submitted to Alameda County to describe how we will be managing all aspects of distance learning, from attendance, to online instruction, to nutrition, and more. In addition, we continue to work with our labor groups to craft agreements that will guide working conditions for the upcoming school year. Our focus should continue to support student learning and instruction as well as safety precautions for all. The Instructional Services, Human Resources, and Business Departments are in the process of developing tools, support, and training that will guide teachers and staff to find the most effective ways to assist students in a Distance Learning Model.

As we are all aware, conditions will change over the coming weeks and months. Preparing for the new school year in these circumstances is a challenging and enormous undertaking. We will do everything possible to communicate the District’s plan as it develops and ask for your continued patience as we work our way through logistical issues and guidelines from a number of state and local agencies.

Mr. Christopher ‘CJ’ Cammack will assume his position as FUSD Superintendent on Monday, August 3rd. We have been in contact with one another and will continue to do so in order to remain current on the status of our district. Mr. Cammack has attended a number of FUSD meetings while finishing his work as Superintendent in Martinez Unified. He is excited to get started and we are looking forward to his arrival.

I would like to thank you all again for your support during my tenure as Acting Superintendent. I have always been impressed with the FUSD community and the past four months have only served to strengthen my belief in our District and community’s ability to work together collaboratively to tackle difficult challenges. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Raúl M. Zamora, Ed.D.
